Can a creator use their root domain instead of a subdomain?

Yes, where their DNS provider can hold a root record: an ALIAS-style record where it has one, A records elsewhere. Root and www together redirect the root to www on Growth and up.

Do creators need to understand DNS?

No. The widget finds where the domain's DNS is hosted, writes the records where an automatic path exists, and shows the exact rows elsewhere, checking each one until it resolves.

What happens to creators' domains if we move our servers?

Through the edge, nothing changes for them. Their records point at CustomDomain™, and you change the origin once for the whole application. Serving through the edge is on Growth and up.
